The film is based on a true story from the artist's family archive. Depicted in hand drawn stop motion animation the narrative unfolds events of the past, interlaced with personal stories and memories of the artist. It raises such topics as migration, identity, belongingness and sketches a portrait of an individual, vulnerable yet resilient.
Twelve hundred moons is a rough equivalent to a hundred years - the difference between the artist and her distant relative who became the protagonist of the film.
